Design and layout of a contemporary and cozy living room in a Haussmann-style apartment.

01

Nestled on the top floor of a Haussmann-style building, the Cévennes Apartment offered a beautiful space and an unobstructed view over the rooftops of Paris. However, its outdated, compartmentalized layout and lack of light prevented any fluidity in terms of circulation and perception of space.

The challenge was to transform this living space into a sleek, contemporary, and welcoming apartment that would reflect the personality of its owners: a creative couple who divide their time between Paris and the south of France.

Challenges

The gently sloping plot, exposed to sea winds, required a sensitive architectural approach that respected the environment. The objective was to work with views, light and climatic constraints in order to create a living space that is fluid, warm and durable.

Approach

We designed the house as a succession of stepped volumes opening out onto the ocean.

The materials — light concrete, raw timber and anodised aluminium — were chosen for their durability and the natural patina they develop over time.

Full-height picture windows ensure a direct connection with the outside, while sheltered patios and terraces create breathing spaces within the composition.

Inside, the choice of furniture, sand-toned colours and mineral finishes prolongs the feeling of calm and coherence. The overall atmosphere favours simplicity, softness and natural light at every hour of the day.

Result

Today, Villa Aléa is an elegant, timeless residence designed to evolve with seasons and ways of living. Every detail has been considered so it recedes behind the beauty of the site, while bringing comfort, serenity and durability.

“We dreamed of a simple, light-filled place that would connect us to the ocean without ever cutting us off from it. The team managed to translate that wish with rare finesse. The house blends into the landscape, every room is bathed in light, and we feel as if the horizon is part of our everyday life. A beautiful achievement, discreet and balanced, very much in our image.”
